Postdoctoral Fellow

Finite Element Modeling of Residual Stress in Multiple Pass Dissimilar Metal Welding

Your tasks

  • Finite element modelling of multi-pass, dissimilar metal welding
  • Evaluation and development of optimisation approaches, for example pass lumping, as used to reduce the computational resources needed for the simulation of multi-pass welding
  • Finite element modelling of overlay and repair welding procedures
  • Collaboration in an EU-project focussed on multi-pass welding
  • Publication of results in scientific journals and at international conferences
  • Support of other service tasks/projects

Your profile

You hold a PhD degree in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering (or closely related) and have a solid background in finite element simulation of deformation of metals, including the programming of user subroutines. Knowledge of cyclic plasticity, fatigue damage modeling, and/or the simulation of a metal welding process would make you an ideal match for this position. Good English communication skills are a requirement.

We offer

Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.

Your employment contract is limited to 2 years.
