Scope of project
In-depth analyses of concentration and deposition of nitrogen and sulfur compounds in Europe with a focus on Switzerland, using various emission scenarios for 1990, 2006, 2020 BL and 2020 MTFR.

Key findings
The modelled concentrations of nitrogen and sulfur compounds were validated against measurements in Switzerland for 2006. Annual NH3 concentrations were captured quite well by the model, seasonal variation of NH3 however was different than observations. Changes in HNO3,NO3, NH3, NH4, SO2 and sulfate between 1990 and 2006 were analyzed by comparing model results with measurements. Changes in OH radical concentration and HNO3 formation from different reactions between 1990 and 2006 were investigated using the Chemical Process Analysis (CPA) tool of CAMx model. Simulations for 2020 were carried out by assuming baseline (BL) and maximum technically feasible reduction (MTFR) scenarios (Aksoyoglu et al., in prep.)
