Biography
Since February 2019, Elia Razzoli is a beamline scientist at the FURKA endstation of ATHOS beamline of SwissFEL facility. His bachelor and Master degrees are from Politecnico di Milano. His Phd is from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where he used angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy to study unconventional superconductors. During his post-doc, at Université de Fribourg, he investigated 2D van der Waals materials by laser-ARPES and STM. In 2016 he was awarded the "Advanced-Postdoc mobility Fellowship" by the SNF and joined to group of Prof. Damascelli in UBC (Vancouver, Canada) to study strongly correlated materials and topological matter by ultrafast TR-ARPES and resonant X-ray diffraction.
Institutional Responsibilities
Elia Razzoli is group leader of Furka group and he is responsible for the design and installation of the upcoming experimental station Furka (LAP) at the soft X-ray beamline Athos at SwissFEL.
Scientific Research
Elia Razzoli's scientific research is focused on the investigation of complex quantum materials, such as unconventional superconductors (SC), low dimensional van der Waals materials, charge density wave (CDW) systems and topological semimetals. As an experimental physicist, he combine an expertise in spectroscopic techniques such as spin-, time- and angle- resolved photoemission (ARPES), resonant elastic and inelastic x-ray scattering (REXS-RIXS) at synchrotrons and FEL light sources with analytical (e.g. ARPES Matrix-element calculations) and numerical techniques such as density functional theory (DFT), in order to explore the static and dynamical properties of quantum matter. The ultimate goal of his research is to improve the understanding of the microscopic mechanisms responsible for the physical properties of complex materials.
