EnEfficient - an activity within the European effort
Beam transfer channels with low power consumption
Task 3.6
This task is led by GSI.Contact: Peter SPILLER at GSI
The Problem: Conventional dipole and quadrupole magnets in transfer channels consume significant power, but in many applications the fields are needed only for short times and low duty factor.
a possibly solution is provided by pulsed quadrupoles
pulsed electromagnetic lenses:
- four conductors arrangement leading the high current pulse
- epoxy resin for mechanical stability
- laminated shielding of electromagnetic pulse
- aperture radius 48 mm
- 76 T/m and 400 kA peak current
- pulse duration: 45µs
