On 10th November 2021 Huanyu Yang successfully defended his PhD entitled “Hydrogen Bonding structure of Water at Interfaces relevant for ice nucleation" at ETH Zürich. Everybody was happy that this event could be held in hybrid mode with the examination committee and part of the audience in person and others connected online. Yang provided a convincing presentation and performed very well in the discussion. Congratulations! The project was evolving around using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Electron Yield X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS) Spectroscopy at ambient water vapour pressure at SLS to investigate the ordering of water on ice nucleating substrates. The project also involved collaboration with colleagues from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
