Data Collection

The Smart Digital User (SDU) enables fully automated data collection at the MX beamlines. Each sample is:

  1. mounted onto a goniometer with the TELL sample changer
  2. optically centred with the automatic loop centring software
  3. X-ray diffraction grid scans are used for the identification of the best spot for data collection
  4. data collection is performed using either default beamline-specific or user-provided parameters (defined in sample spreadsheet)
  5. data is automatically processed using user-provided parameters (defined in sample spreadsheet)

SDU is best suited for:

  • Well-known and characterised crystallisation systems (such as crystals from fragment soaking campaign)
  • Samples containing single crystal mounted in an appropriately sized loop

Switching between fully automated and manual data collection modes during your shift is possible.

As a user of the MX beamlines, you can ship your samples to our beamlines and carry out the experiments from your home institution by connecting to our beamlines remotely via an NX session.

Follow the steps in: https://www.psi.ch/photon-science-data-services/remote-interactive-access

The legacy MX software documentation is located in our shared SWITCHdrive folder. The software is currently being rewritten to incorporate the beamline changes resulting from the SLS 2.0 upgrade.
