Solar Technology Laboratory (LST)

The Solar Technology Laboratory (LST) of the Paul Scherrer Institute, established in 1988, was part of the Energy and Environment Research Division until 30.06.2018.

The laboratory developed and optimized solar-driven thermochemical processes and demonstrated their technical and economic feasibility at an industrially relevant scale. Solar chemical technologies may be used for the delivery of clean, sustainable energy services, such as the solar thermal production of fuels (e.g., hydrogen, syngas, and synthetic liquid hydrocarbons) and chemical commodities (e.g. aluminum, zinc) for the power, transportation and chemical sectors of the world energy economy.

The work is continued at the Professorship of Renewable Energy Carriers (PREC) at the ETH Zürich.

Publications of the former Solar Technology Laboratory (LST) can be found here.
