The Swiss e-cargo project aims at providing decision support in the context of electrifying vehicle fleets of Swiss logistic companies.
Many Swiss firms are eager to electrify their goods transportation fleets but struggle to determine ideal fleet compositions and charging strategies. This is because battery electric heavy-goods vehicles face a difficult three-way trade-off between range, maximum cargo capacity, and time limitations for in-service charging. Lead by Infras, we will work with Swiss logistics players to determine their individual requirements for fleet electrification. This information will be distilled into representative use cases applicable to a range of Swiss firms. Potential fleet and charging strategies will be designed for each use case based on available technologies and expected future developments. Optimal fleet compositions and charging strategies will be determined based on total ownership costs, life cycle environmental burdens, fleet reliability, and charging capacity requirements.
The Technology Assessment group is responsible for the quantification of total ownership costs and life cycle burdens of a broad variety of current and near-future road freight transport vehicles, covering the needs of participating logistic companies.
The main results of this project will be a report and parameterized excel tool that provide decision support to Swiss firms looking to electrify their goods transport fleets.
