The Infrastructure and Electronic Installations department looks after the entire technical infrastructure at PSI. This extends over 120 buildings and several large research facilities. To this end, we create and operate infrastructure solutions for cutting-edge research with the highest possible safety and availability.
The institute's own 16 kV on-site supply network, with a capacity of over 20 MVA, provides the amount of energy required annually, equivalent to around 35,000 households. More than 50% of the required heating energy is obtained through heat recovery from our own research facilities. Our expertise also includes electrical installations, ventilation, refrigeration, cooling water, cryogenic gases as well as control, safety and building management systems.
We support all areas of PSI in dealing with conceptual issues, compliance with legal regulations, or project-specific designs. We pay particular attention to energy efficiency and optimisation measures.
For our young people, we are intensively involved in apprenticeships. Every year we train young people as electricians and automation technicians with Federal VET Diploma and support other apprenticeships at PSI with specialised training modules.
