Russell McKenna and Andreas Pautz on Energy Production in Switzerland

Andreas Pautz and Russell McKenna spoke with the NZZ about Switzerland’s energy transition.

With increasing reliance on wind and solar energy, balancing fluctuating outputs is a major challenge. In Switzerland, experts are exploring nuclear energy as a steady complement to renewables, to help ensure grid stability and (at least partly) fill the "winter gap." 
 
Andreas Pautz and Russell McKenna of the Center for Nuclear Engineering and Sciences talked with the NZZ about how this hybrid model could support Switzerland’s energy transition, potentially increasing energy system resilience whilst reducing costs.
