On January 23rd, 2024, first "Swedish" X-ray light was delivered to the SOPHIE endstation, currently installed at the SoftiMAX beamline of the MaxIV light source.
The SOPHIE endstation is a new development from the Microspectroscopy group at PSI, which will allow, once fully commissioned, for the routine high resolution (<10 nm) ptychographic imaging of materials at the soft and tender X-ray energies. Liquid Helium cooling will also be available, allowing for the nanoscale imaging of materials at sub-20K temperatures. In addition, 3D imaging, made accessible through the use of laminographic imaging, will be available at SOPHIE.
The SOPHIE endstation will remain installed at the SoftiMAX beamline until the beginning of 2025, when it will be moved back to SLS to be ready for the end of the SLS 2.0 upgrade.
