Overview
Two pairs of helium driven rabbit system tubes reach into the volume of the D₂O moderator tank of the SINQ, one (PNA) to a position at a distance of about 40 cm near the Target and the other one (NAA) to a position at about 80 cm.
One of the specialties of having such irradiation positions at a spallation source is the presence of a certain fraction of high energy neutrons, which are not present in a nuclear reactor. With that our facility allows to study threshold reactions in isotope production and activation which otherwise is not accessible.
The drawings show a horizontal cut through the facility.
