Biography
Gianluca holds a M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the University of Bologna (Italy), and a Ph.D. in biomechanics from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany). His doctoral research focused on multi-modal imaging and numerical simulation of human bone in the context of osteoporosis diagnosis. Between 2020 and 2024 Gianluca was beamline scientist at SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) in Jordan, to coordinate the design, installation and commissioning of SESAME's X-ray microtomography beamline within the EU2020 project BEATS. ID10-BEATS was inaugurated in June 2023 and is welcoming users since 2024. In July 2024, Gianluca joined as a junior scientist the X-ray Tomography group of Prof. Marco Stampanoni to develop X-ray phase-contrast imaging modalities of human breast.
