The PRISMAP Radiolanthanides Workshop took place at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland from September 3 to 5, 2024. This influential three-day event gathered leading experts to review the latest advancements in radiolanthanides—radioactive elements at the forefront of cancer therapy. The workshop showcased cutting-edge developments in radiolanthanide production and explored their applications in both preclinical and clinical settings. A key highlight was an insightful panel discussion on the "Clinical Translation of Terbium-161 and Lessons Learned," which provided valuable takeaways for the future of cancer treatment. The event received extensive media coverage and was recently featured by the Swiss Society of Radiopharmacy and Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry (SGRRC)

On September 5, 2024, the Fall Meeting 2024 of the Swiss Chemical Society took place. The annual event attracts young (and old) chemists from all over Switzerland and gathers them at one of the country’s major universities. This year’s edition was held at the University of Fribourg. While most PhD students of LRC participated with poster presentations, Jennifer Wilson and Michael Hofstetter managed to secure themselves one of the rare spots for an oral presentation. Among many outstanding contributions, Paul Dutheil won the Best Poster Award - congratulations from the whole LRC to our honorary member, Paul! Well done :)

During the week of August 25-30, 2024, members of the Laboratory of Radiochemistry attended the International Conference on Nuclear and Radiochemistry NRC10 in Brighton, United Kingdom. The conference covered a wide range of topics in the field and, although generally having a European focus, attracted international experts from around the world. Members of LRC gave strong poster presentations and great talks. Finally, Michael Hofstetter won the prize for the best oral presentation with his talk entitled “Unravelling ultra-trace lanthanide impurities in nuclear forensics evidence” – congratulations from all of us, Mike! Well deserved :)

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Vladislav Zobnin for receiving the prestigious Best Presentation Award at the NUCLEAR 2024 conference. 

On March 26, 2024, Patrick Steinegger leads visitors of the ETH Zürich Public Tours 2024  through the proton accelerator facility of PSI.

Jelena Petrović is a visiting scientist working on the separation and purification of various radionuclides from irradiated targets and radioactive waste. Additionally, she is exploring the utilization of novel radionuclides for diverse applications, including but not limited to medical applications (⁴⁴Ti/⁴⁴Sc), geological studies (³²Si), astrophysical investigations (²⁶Al, ^180mTa), nuclear waste partitioning (^110mAg), and catalytic processes (⁶⁵Zn).

Pan Xiaohan is a visiting PhD student, who works on the removal of radionuclides (^110mAg, ¹²⁹I/¹³¹I) from contaminated water.

Vladislav Zobnin is a new Phd student, who has recently joined the group of Isotope and Target Chemistry. He will work on the “PASCAL” project (EU), under the supervision of Dr. Jörg Neuhausen.

Noemi Cerboni and Michael Hofstetter managed to keep up the international scientific prestige of LRC at the Jahrestagung der Fachgruppe Nuklearchemie 2022, with Noemi winning the Best Poster Award and Mike the Second Best Poster Award. Congrats, guys, LRC is proud of you!

The Isotope and Target Chemistry group of the Paul Scherrer Institut had the pleasure to organize and host the 30^th Conference of the International Nuclear Target Development Society (INTDS 2022) at PSI from 25^th to 30^th September 2022.

The conference was a great success! 80 participants, representing scientific institutions of 14 different countries and 4 continents, met in person, discussed and presented their newest results on target preparation methods, advances in target characterization, production of targets for medical applications, gas targets, stripper films, high-power target technology and much more. We are happy to emphasise the relative large number of students, 15, participating to the event.

LRC is happy to congratulate Veicht Mario Aaron, one of our most promising student, for the successful defence of his PhD Thesis, 30^th of September, 2022, at PSI Auditorium lecture hall.

PSI: Doktorandentag des Departements Nukleare Energie und Sicherheit 2022.

The Department of Nuclear Energy and Safety (NES) of the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) held its annual PhD Day. The PhD students presented their research work to a jury, which awarded the best presentations in each of the various categories with a prize donated by the Nuklearforum Schweiz.

This year Noemi Cerboni and Mario Veicht, first and fourth year PhD students, respectively, of LRC won this prestigious award. 

Welcome to our new PhD Student Noemi Cerboni. She' ll be working with us for the next four (?) years on "Development of electrochemical methods for the production of thin film Lanthanides"

We are happy to welcome Lu Liu in our Laboratory. 

Dr. Lu Liu is a Postdoctoral Researcher, who has recently joined the group of Isotope and Target Chemistry. She will work on the “PASCAL” project, under the supervision of Dr. Jörg Neuhausen.
