Research Interests
My research program is centered on genuine quantum phenomena in bulk materials. I am particularly interested in exploiting tuning of the underlying atomic-scale interactions via external control parameters (pressure, field, strain, crystal chemistry) to understand and optimize the properties of quantum materials. This is not only crucial due to fundamental scientific interest but also because many of these materials show high potential for future applications. To pursue this vision, my research closely integrates the making of materials, development and design of novel instrumentation, state-of-the-art experiments and modelling. For the latter, I rely on an international network of theorists. My key expertise is the quantitative determination of atomic-scale properties of quantum matter phases by means of x-ray and neutron scattering methods at extreme conditions as well as in the design of neutron instrumentation.
