From 22nd-24th October 2019, the international workshop “Topology in Magnetism: Theory Meets Experiments (TME) 2019” took place in La Plata, Argentina. Around 50 participants enjoyed three days of focused talks and discussions on a range of topics related to topology and magnetism, including magnetic skyrmions and vortices, synthetic nanomagnetism, anomalous transport, ferroelectric skyrmions and vortices, and computational materials theory.
The workshop forms a key aspect of a SNF Swiss – Latin American ‘Seed Money’ grant (Grant No. SMG1811) on magnetic skyrmions shared between experimentalists in LNS and theoreticians at CONICET - Universidad Nacional de La Plata. The goal of the grant is to foster collaboration between Swiss and Latin- or South-American researchers, and promote long-lasting collaboration. Due to the excellent feedback on the workshop from the attendees, we plan a future edition of the meeting to take place in Switzerland, and attract strong interest from PSI- and Swiss-based researchers working in the field.
Many thanks to all of the invited speakers, attendees and poster presenters at TME 2019 for contributing to this highly enjoyable event. We also gratefully acknowledge additional financial support from the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging (LNS) at PSI. (O. Zaharko and J. White, co-organizers)
