Biography
Claudio Cirelli received his PhD in Physics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. His PhD work was related to the investigation of optically induced dynamics of molecules adsorbed on metal substrates studied by ultrafast low energy electron diffraction (t-LEED). He then moved to the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich focusing his research on femtosecond and attosecond science applied to atomic and molecular targets in the gas phase. Before moving to PSI he was shortly employed as scientific group leader in the Advanced Analytical Technology laboratory at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Material Science and Technology, where he worked on various X-ray spectroscopy with either lab based and large-scale facilities X-ray sources. He is currently a beamline scientist at the Alvra end station at SwissFEL.
Institutional Responsibilities
Claudio is currently beamline scientist at the Alvra beamline at SwissFEL, an endstation dedicated to the investigation of time-resolved chemical and biological processes with various X-ray based methods like X-ray spectroscopy and diffraction. Together with the Alvra group, we operate the Prime and Flex instruments of the endstation and provide user support for external groups to perform experiments.
Scientific research
Ultrafast time resolved X-ray spectroscopy of molecular targets in the liquid phase, X-ray scattering and imaging of particles in solution.
