HySPI

The HySPI project is funded by the French agency for Energy and aims to provide a methodological framework to analyze and quantify, in a systemic and prospective manner, the environmental impacts of the decarbonization strategy of H2 production used by the industry in France.

This project has two complementary objectives:

  • The first is to develop a methodological framework for estimating the environmental impacts of various H2 production, distribution, storage and industrial uses of H2 in order to allow, thanks to attributional LCA, a systematic and prospective analysis of the influence of uncertain and variable parameters such as the efficiency of production processes or the size of installations.
  • The second objective focuses on the prospective analysis of the consequences of the national strategy for the development of H2 on the environmental impacts of the production, distribution/storage and industrial uses of H2 in France up to 2050. Parametric models and protocols will be developed to achieve these objectives. These tools will be tested by an industrial actor (TotalEnergies) on a specific and real case study of production and industrial use of H2 in France, the Masshylia project, which will guarantee the relevance and ease of use of these tools by an industrial actor.

Moreover, a more theoretical application of the developed methods to the production of ammonia is also planned to ensure their generic character. Finally, these tools will be presented to industrial actors of different sectors using H2, such as (bio)fuel refining, ammonia and methanol production, or steel industry, as well as to LCA specialists to ensure their dissemination and use.
