The consortium will develop a website which will allow for an up-to-date comparison of all passenger vehicles on the Swiss market regarding their total cost of ownership, life cycle greenhouse gas emissions, and cumulative energy demand. It aims at providing decision support for Swiss car buyers and will be hosted by “energieschweiz”.
While TCS leads the project, is responsible for providing all model-specific vehicle data with regular updates of those and quantify total costs of ownership, the Technology Assessment group quantifies life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of all individual passenger cars as well as their primary energy demand including vehicle production use, and end-of-life. These calculations will be regularly updated to reflect latest fuel supply chains, car characteristics and the vehicle market as such and also taking into account the latest version of the ecoinvent database as source of background inventory data. DimasterSoftware GmbH is responsible for the design of the web interface to ensure user friendliness.
Users will be able to specify their average fuel or electricity prices, the canton in which they are living, their expected annual and total mileage, the expected vehicle lifetime, whether they can charge the battery of an electric vehicle from PV modules on their rooftop, or whether they purchase a specific electricity product, which determines the carbon footprint of their charging electricity.
Besides total costs of ownership and life cycle greenhouse gas emissions, the website will also provide a broad range of vehicle specific data, such as fuel consumption, direct CO2 emissions, battery type and capacity, electric driving range, and charging power.
