Technology monitoring for SFOE: Hydrogen and electricity storage

As part of SFOE’s technology monitoring, the Technology Assessment group is carrying out a techno-economic and environmental evaluation of hydrogen and electricity storage technologies. This includes hydrogen production via different pathways based on several feedstock, hydrogen transport and storage, and stationary end-use in fuel cells; and electricity storage in batteries, compressed air energy and pumped hydro storage plants as well as synthetic methane. Technology development, associated costs and environmental burdens are estimated until 2050. Geographical focus will be on Switzerland, while considering European boundary conditions.
