Andrea Baccarini, former PhD at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at PSI won the prestigious Prix de Quervain.
The Prix de Quervain is awarded on a yearly basis by the Swiss Commission for Polar and High Altitude Research of the Swiss Academies of Sciences, together with the Commission for the Jungfraujoch High-Alpine Research Station of the Swiss Academies of Natural Sciences in recognition of outstanding work in polar and high-altitude research. The award is attributed to young scientists for their MA or PHD thesis or research projects. This year, the call was open in the field of polar research.
In his thesis titled “New aerosol particle formation in polar region”, Andrea Baccarini investigated aerosol formation in the Arctic and Antarctic and the role of aerosols in climate change. During his PhD, Andrea participated in the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition, in the Arctic Ocean Expedition, and in several CLOUD campaigns at CERN. His results contributed to a better understanding of sources of aerosols in polar regions and their potential impact on cloud formation. Andrea has also been awarded the ETH medal for his doctoral thesis. Today Andrea works at the Laboratory of atmospheric processes and their impact at EPFL.
Congratulations Andrea Baccarini on your valuable contribution to research!
