ACTRIS ACSM intercomparison

The largest intercomparison of aerosol mass spectrometers was performed form Nov 2013 to Dec 2013 at the French SIRTA (Site Instrumental de Recherche par Teledetection Atmospherique) supersite. In total 15 mass spectrometers (13 x Q-ACSM, 1 x ToF-ACSM, 1 x HRToF-AMS) provided by the institutions listed in Tab. 1 were operated in parallel for a period of two weeks together with a suite of additional aerosol and gas phase instruments (e.g. PILS-IC, PTR-MS, filter sampling, aethalometer, nephelometer, SMPS, OPC, TEOM-FDMS, etc.).

ACSMs are installed at numerous sites around Europe on a continuous basis. A cooperation between institutions operating these sites was established in the framework of the European FP7 project ACTRIS. The purpose of this instrument intercomparison it to assess and ensure comparability of the species resolved aerosol data from the different sations around Europe.
Results of the intercomparison will be published in two peer-reviewed papers:
  • Chemically resolved aerosol concentrations and instrument performance by Crenn et al.
  • Mass spectra and source apportionment results by Fröhlich et al.
