This PhD project aims to analyze the trends of ozone and particulate matter (PM) in Europe to better understand the main processes leading to observed trends (i.e. changes in anthropogenic emissions, solar radiation, meteorological variability, background ozone).
  • The 3% decrease in solar surface radiation (SSR) between 1990 and 2010 led to a relatively small increase on mean surface ozone (about 1.5%) mainly by affecting the photolysis rates.
  • The results obtained in this study suggested that traffic-NOx emissions in Eurepean emission inventories might be too low.
