Lucas Javier Fernandez de Losada is a PhD Candidate at the Paul Scherrer Institute, focusing on integrating nuclear technologies into long-term decarbonization pathways for Switzerland’s energy system. His research explores how nuclear energy, alongside renewables, electrification, and energy efficiency, can support CO₂ neutrality by 2050 and beyond, while addressing the growing electricity demand.
Lucas holds a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering from ETH Zurich and EPFL, and a Bachelor’s in Energy Engineering from Politecnico di Torino. Lucas has also conducted research at MIT’s Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, assessing the techno-economics of advanced nuclear reactors.
