IMPACT
The proton accelerator HIPA has been in operation since 1974 and has been expanded repeatedly since then. It is known worldwide for generating especially large numbers of protons per second in a continuous stream for research. To enhance internationally top-level research, a strategically significant upgrade is now planned for HIPA. It bears the name IMPACT: Isotope and Muon Production with Advanced Cyclotron and Target Technologies. As a joint project of PSI, the University of Zurich, and the University Hospital of Zurich, IMPACT is intended to be implemented in the Swiss research funding period that begins in 2025.
