The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. The Radiation Transport and Multiphysics group is responsible, among other tasks, for activity calculations for the High Intensity Proton Accelerator (HIPA) and the PROSCAN medical facility. One of our projects is connected to the estimation of the amount of activated material after the final decommissioning of these two facilities. For this project we are looking for an

Engineer / Physicist

Your tasks

  • Monte Carlo calculations of waste volume, nuclide inventory and dose rate for HIPA and PROSCAN
  • Sensitivity analysis and evaluation of material compositions
  • Develop and extend detailed Monte Carlo geometry models for several areas of HIPA and PROSCAN

Your profile

  • PhD degree in nuclear or particle physics, nuclear engineering or material science
  • Experience with radiation measurements at particle accelerators and in numerical simulation of radiation transport and induced activity in matter
  • You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and have very good oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of German is beneficial
