Fundamentals of Nature Topic Overview Energy transition Topic Overview The Swiss research infrastructure for particle physics CHRISP The Swiss Light Source SLS has been in operation since 2001. Now an upgrade to this large-scale research facility, unique in Switzerland, is planned. Science, technology, engineering, and data processing have progressed considerably since SLS was first commissioned. The modernisation project, called SLS 2.0, will allow novel, better, and more profound research than before. In addition, with the new equipment, SLS will retain a leading position in the international field of synchrotron light sources. In December 2020, the Swiss Federal Council will make the final decision on financing the SLS 2.0 upgrade. Research on Covid-19 PSI is in limited operation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But right now, in this extraordinary time, the researchers want to make their contribution to society – at PSI and in cooperation with other research institutions and companies. Here we provide information on activities and projects that are starting up or being planned, for example, to examine lung tissue or to produce proteins and antibodies, or on ideas for new research on Covid-19.
