On this day, let's remember the importance of taking care of our mental well-being, especially in the workplace where we spend a significant amount of time.
Therefore, here are 7 tips to help you manage your mental health at work:
Lean on Advisors: Don't hesitate to seek advice from points of contact when facing tough situations. Their insights can provide a fresh perspective. At PSI, if you're seeking guidance from an impartial point of contact, a range of internal and external confidential advisors are accessible as part of the "Confidential Procedure".
Sweat it Out: Incorporate physical activity into your routine. Whether it's a brisk walk in the campus woods, a quick yoga session, or hitting the gym, exercise can work wonders for your mind. Moreover, if you're seeking motivation, don't hesitate to reach out to the Sportclub PSI!
Build Connections: Connect with your peers and team members. Having a good team atmosphere and a support network at work can create a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation. You can have a chat with your colleagues or you can join or exchange with various groups and clubs on campus like, for example, our PhD and Post Doc Association, our growing LGTBQ+ network, the committee for equal opportunities or the “PeKo” the employees group… and the list doesn’t end here!
Take Mindful Breaks: Step away from your desk for short breaks and get some fresh air to recharge during the workday. Stretch, breathe deeply, take a revitalizing swim in the Aare river or even pamper yourself with a massage to release tension –yes, all conveniently accessible right on campus!
Nourish Well: Fuel your body with nutritious foods and stay hydrated, particularly during nighttime beamline shifts ;-). A balanced diet can positively affect your mood and energy levels. Our campus offers a restaurant and two cafes to support your well-being.
Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself. Don't be too hard on mistakes or setbacks; treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend.
Set Boundaries: Establish a healthy work-life balance. Know when to disconnect and give yourself the space to recharge outside of work hours.
